Kurent

Kurent

Slovenia

The Kurent, a god of early Slavic folklore, held a wooden club and wore a sheepskin coat. His headgear was a furry hat adorned with ribbons and his face was hidden behind a mask with a long red tongue. His frightening appearance and the noise from the bells and chains on his waist were believed to chase away winter.

This entity appears in the story “12. The Heathens Are Expelled”.
