Aztec Funerary Statue

Mexico

Aztec Funerary Statues were buried as offerings to Xiuhtecuhtli and other Aztec gods. Both male and female, they were sculpted frontally, kneeling, their hands resting on their knees and their mouths half-open. Their elaborate headdresses were decorated with gold and turquoise and included sacred animals like the jaguar showing his fangs in a display of strength.

This entity appears in the story “17. The Calavera Enters”.
