Bullroarer

Bullroarer

Australia

The Bullroarer is a musical instrument of Indigenous Australians. Tied to a string and whirled through the air, it wards off evil spirits in initiation ceremonies and burials. In some communities, the sound of the bullroarer is the voice of Daramulan, the sky god, often depicted with an emu back and a club foot.

This entity appears in the story “3. Tribal Music”.
