Chinthe

Chinthe

Myanmar

The Chinthe is a Burmese mythical lion, usually depicted with a gaping mouth, fierce expression, and scrolling tail. Revered by the Burmese, his image is used on coins and sculpted onto the former royal thrones, and even today, small images of him are prized as good-luck amulets. He is often seen in the vicinity of pagodas and temples at moonrise.

This entity appears in the story “21. Buddhist Defiance”.
