Cristo Negro
Guatemala; Panama; Mexico
Cristo Negro or the Black Christ is a well-known image in Mesoamerica. The Christ is always black with a contrasting vivid red for the blood. The halo, which is either absent or of little interest in European images, is often highly exaggerated. Mesoamerica has a strong tradition of venerating crucifixes of the Black Christ, many of which are supposed to sweat blood.
This entity appears in the story “6. Problems with the Prophet”.
