Festac Mask
Nigeria; Benin; Togo
The Festac Mask is of ancient origin. The first was created to honor Idia, the Iyoba of the Benin Kingdom in the 1500s. The mask is often made of ebony, adorned with a beaded headdress and two metal inlays on the forehead, symbolizing sacred scarification.
This entity appears in the story “2. The Bitterness of the Masks”.
