Fetish Doll
São Tomé and Príncipe
Fetish Dolls have the power to appease ghosts that seek revenge or wish to return to the world of the living. In São Tomé and Príncipe, an island-country off the coast of West Africa, the inhabitants add both indigenous African and Catholic votive images to the dolls for use in the Djambí, a communal religious ritual of the Forros, in which music and dancing are connected with spirit possession.
This entity appears in the story “23. Island Faiths”.
