The Fortune Teller and his crystal ball came from northern India along with the Roma (formerly Gypsies), who have used it for centuries to “scry,” or foretell future events. Fortune tellers of both sexes are known to tell their clients that a good-looking stranger bearing presents will soon appear in their lives.
