The Koran, written down between 609 – 632 CE, is the religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be the word of God (Allah) as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Imagery is banned in Islam, and worship of statuary is forbidden; thus, the Koran holds special significance, and great care is taken in handling and storing it.
