Laotian Spirit House
Laos
The Laotian Spirit House is a shrine in the form of a small roofed structure that shelters the protective spirit of the place. Votive offerings are placed on altars in the form of food, trinkets, colorful streamers, and flags to entertain the spirits, some of whom are particularly demanding and can cause significant problems if not appeased. Usually, images of elephants, bringers of good luck, are also seen.
This entity appears in the story “21. Buddhist Defiance”.
