Madup

Madup

Torres Strait Islands, Australia

The Madup (possibly “made-up’ by the author of “Isles of Despair”) is a magic charm that helps in the capture of fish. Carved from wood, painted with sacred symbols, and decorated with cassowary feathers, it is used by the Torres Strait Islanders, whose home is the waterways between Australia’s Cape York Peninsula and New Guinea.

This entity appears in the story “8. Bullying in Oceania”.
