Manasa Devi, the goddess of snakes, is kind to her devotees but venomous to those who refuse to worship her. She is always seen with snakes, and her long black hair is tangled in serpentine tresses. Worship of her climbs in the wet season when snakes are most active, and the 102 islands of the Sundarban Delta have temples dedicated to her.
