Massacre of the Innocents

The Massacre of the Innocents, male babies aged two and under, was ordered by King Herod because of a prophecy that one would grow up to be King (Jesus, who escaped). The children are often said to be the first Christian martyrs, but the number killed (and the story itself) is uncertain. The images are from a Croatian stone relief.
