Rain Stick

Chile

The Rain Stick, a dried cactus tube filled with pebbles, makes a sound like falling rain when turned slowly. The Mapuche people of the Atacama, the driest desert in the world, where Death rattles his chains and faces them daily, hope the sound of the rain stick will remind the Great Spirit that rain is their only hope of survival.

This entity appears in the story “16. Peace on Earth”.
