South Sea Guanyin
Malaysia
The South Sea Guanyin is a bodhisattva, one who refrains from entering Heaven until all creatures have attained enlightenment. Revered by fisherfolk of the southern oceans, the androgynous god is usually shown with the right arm stretched out, resting on the bent right knee. The artist sometimes adds sea creatures.
This entity appears in the story “9. Levitation Sunday”.
