Saint Augustine of Hippo, a fourth-century theologian famous for his Confessions, was continually troubled by a demon who kept telling the Saint about new and novel ways of sinning. Even chaining up the wicked little creature wouldn’t stop his chatter. Other early Christians had the same problems.
