St. Marinus

Saint Marinus

Croatia

Saint Marinus, a Christian in Croatia, escaped persecution by fleeing to Italy. He became a hermit, but the wealthy flocked to hear him, and when he died in 366 CE, he’d established a community and was canonized as a saint. His last words, “I leave you free of both men,” probably meant the Emperor and the Pope, which was prophetic because his colony is now an independent republic.

This entity appears in the story “21. Buddhist Defiance”.
