Uru Animal Heads
Peru; Bolivia
Uru Animal Heads are placed on the prow of a boat. Woven from straw, they generally depict a fierce animal like a puma, and all display unusually sharp teeth. They are believed to be spirit protectors and belong to the Uru, an ancient people predating the Inca. They live on floating islands made of reeds on Lake Titicaca.
This entity appears in the story “16. Peace on Earth”.
