Winged Lion

The Winged Lion, a mythological creature, was the heraldic symbol of Mark the Evangelist. As St. Mark is the patron saint of Venice, lion images are seen everywhere, the largest being atop a column in St. Mark’s Square. He often flies around at night to check out the lagoon.
