Bactrian Groomsman
Bactria, now Afghanistan
The Bactrian Groomsman is a tomb figure from the Tang Dynasty (618 – 906 CE) that stretched over most of Central Asia along with China. The non-Chinese figures, with sharply defined features and beards, were from Central Asia, primarily servants placed in the tomb to help the deceased in practical matters (like grooming his horse) and protect his spirit in the afterlife.
