Saint Louis
France
Saint Louis, or King Louis IX, born in 1214, was a devout Christian and brave warrior as well as a king. He led the Seventh Crusade to the Holy Land and died in Tunisia on his way back to France in 1270. Beloved by his subjects, he was the only French king to be declared a saint (by Pope Boniface VIII in 1297).
